New leather option: Redwood Navajo Bison
One advantage of the COVID-19 lockdown for my small business has been working with new leather suppliers. My main pebbled bison leather supplier took action to safe and healthy at home, all the while I had Design Your Own orders chiming in, and I realized I had to think fast on my supply issue.
I found another USA supplier selling some of the same USA tanned + harvested pebbled bison leather that I needed! I called them to see if they were still shipping, for more information on their company, how they sourced this bison leather (it’s an intimate collaborative between the US founder + a small South America tannery) asked for a handful of swatches to feel, take photos of, and bring to the Bird Trouble Web Store as alternative leather options for my customers. You can see all my leather options in the CUSTOMIZE page where I also recommend specific leathers for specific styles / products.
This is the Redwood Navajo bison leather. I had to make a featured blog post for this leather because I just completed handcrafting this Julia J Convertible Bag for Eyrka. Eryka’s the first customer to ask for this leather and I really hope I get to work with it again. This leather has a sturdy temperament and it has a very cool pull to it which you’ll notice in the photos. It’s definitely is not as plush as the pebbled bison or the vegetable tanned cowhide I offer. It has a glossy finish and a pretty awesome looking pull up texture.
Eryka requested a custom stamped nickname tag which you see on the back. Wrecka and I have added a similar tag on a previous custom bag for her! I’m so pumped, proud, and lucky that Eryka’s a great return customer. We’re making her Bird Trouble collection look real good!
