We Sold Out!!!!!
I had a message from one of my fave customers this morning “You sold out! You’re in demand! I’m so happy for you! Please take care of yourself!”
How sweet is that? I have received an out pouring of love from so many of you this week after we sold out of the 31 bags from the BT x OSG ready to ship drop collaboration. It’s all so sweet! This is one of the many reasons why I love running a small business, because you all know I am an actual human being. Thank you for knowing this and for being empathic with how I feel or am as a human. You for sure wouldn’t message Target to tell them congrats on a successful drop and to take care. 😂🖤
I spent time last weekend and two full work days Mon + Tues prepping the BT x OSG orders for their add-ons and shipping. I only have a few more left to push out the door before the weekend. But I’m waiting on a material package, because due to the demand of the add-ons I ran out of studs, hand-stitching thread, & leather for simple handles earlier than expected.
I have a lot of work to do. You’re teaching me what Bird Trouble needs and what you, my customers, want. In fact now my DYO schedule is booked out until August which gives me all the feels.
Not only is the demand humbling, it can be stressful until I remember my client’s reminder. Yes this brand’s mission is to get the coolest fringe leather bags and leather goods in your hands. But #1 the reason why I do & why I can do what I do is to take of myself. My future self, my creativity, Bird Trouble’s future, my time, my sleep schedule, my family & home life, my time to travel or be outdoors.
It took me a lot of years, side jobs, and a lot of support to get to this point. I definitely can take better care of myself now a days as opposed to a few years ago when I was juggling a hospitality job, a freelance sewing gig, Bird Trouble online orders, the Bird Trouble city Nest, and working with the Chicago production team. Then Covid happened. I released the hospitality, sewing gig, and eventually the Bird Trouble city Nest. I grew Bird Trouble production and my bank account so that my now-husband and I could buy a home.
We did it. We bought a home out of Chicago and moved to the country where we can put care and equity into a home, my workshop, our land, have more solitude in nature, and less distractions. So I’ve gotten pretty damn good at working mostly alone, managing my expectations / deadlines, and finding comfort in what others would find stressful or lonely situations. My younger self was resilient before she even knew she was. I grew up an only-child so I can definitely find good company in myself. I can ride with the stimulation and get grounded just to ride it again.
So yes, thank you all so much, for the love and for the business. This morning I’ll be taking myself on a long hike in Wisconsin, as I’m just about 20 minutes from the border, and when I get back to the home workshop later today, Bird Trouble will have so much purposeful work waiting for me. 🖤🖤🖤
